There are five famous shrine of Shiva in Garhwal; these are Kedarnath, Madhmaheshwar, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpeshwar. These four places, along Shri Kedarnath known as the Panch Kedar. In old tradition of pilgrimage all the kedars were visited by the pilgrimage, but the introduction of motor transport in Garhwal popularized the pilgrimage to Kedarnath leaving the others four Kedars isolated. But all this makes the visit to these places most rewarding.
